Happy Horror-days!

I don't get the issue with the use of "Happy Holidays" as a greeting or salutation. I understand there's a backlash against PC these days, but "Happy Holidays" has been around much longer than the most recent wave of the politically correct.

Perhaps "Happy Holidays" spawned the entire PC phenomenon; businesses have been using it for decades to include their non-Christian customers. If memory serves, it was started because of Hanukkah. Okay, so now there are a couple more things in the mix: Kwanzaa and Ramadan, among others. Are Christians that paranoid folks aren't celebrating the birth of Christ that they must now inflict their religious insecurities on unsuspecting store clerks and customer-service reps?

I have to admit, I don't think it's that terrible to say "Merry Christmas." Few folks deny the existence of Christ or that he was a great man. Granted, I don't know the icons of other religions - or their birthdays, anyway. But I don't think I would get bent out of shape if someone said to me, "Merry Mohammedmas!" Ingratiating oneself to store personnel who are just doing their jobs in their meager ways is silly. After all, it's not Christmas to everyone, and "Happy Holidays" covers it all, including the Fourth Incarnation of the Flying Spaghetti Monster. What, you don't celebrate? OBEY YOUR NOODLY MASTER!!
