I am confused.

If it is not judged, in what way is it a poetry slam, as opposed to something else which is not a poetry slam?

The main reason I called it "Don't Judge; Just Slam" is that I wanted to do something in the tradition of a slam without the judging, which, around here, attracts groups of folks who all compete against each other to the point of ignorance, booing and hissing, and even violence against other slammers. Surely you know this occurs and have probably even been subject to it.

Also, many of us local poets have performance pieces, raps, or other slam-type poems we don't generally get to perform at open mics because of content, politics, or language, or just the general atmosphere of the venue.
